• ‘Didi No. 1’ Rachana Banerjee gets a place on Didi’s list

  • The host of the popular Bengali TV show Didi No. 1, Rachana Banerjee, is debuting in politics as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from the Hooghly Lok Sabha seat.

    She has been pitted against former actor and sitting BJP MP Locket Chatterjee.

    Rachana Banerjee has not only been the leading lady in several Bengali movies, but she has also been a prominent face in the Odia and the Southern entertainment industries. She stopped acting in films long ago but continued to awe viewers with her presence on the small screen in Bengal. Her show Didi No. 1 has been a massive hit and has been running uninterruptedly for more than a decade.

    Born on October 2, 1974, Jhumjhum Banerjee alias Rachana Banerjee has 3.8 million followers on Facebook and 891k followers on Instagram.

    She was crowned Miss Kolkata in 1994, she also won five sub-contests at the Miss India contest that year. Jhumjum Banerjee adopted the screen name of Rachana at the suggestion of director Sukhen Das.

    She played the female lead opposite Odia movie star Siddhant Mahapatra in about 40 movies. She also appeared alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Sooryavansham.

    Notably, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee appeared in an episode of the Didi No. 1 show hosted by Rachana Banerjee on 3rd March.
