• Free eye screening for auto drivers, taxi drivers and rickshaw pullers in Kolkata

  • KOLKATA: A free eye screening camp for public transporters like auto drivers, taxi drivers and rickshaw pullers was conducted at Gariahat crossing by Kolkata Police in association with Disha Eye Hospitals on Tuesday.

    Sambaran Banerjee, former cricketer and national selector; Asish Kumar Roy, officer-in-charge of the south east traffic guard and Debasish Bhattacharya, MD and chairman of Disha Eye Hospitals inaugurated the camp.

    “Drivers of public vehicles especially need to have a clear vision for a smooth journey safe journey not only for them but for hundreds of passengers they carry every day. This camp was much needed,” said a senior official of the traffic guard.

    A senior official of the hospital said similar camps will be organised at Thakurpukur, Chinar Park and Barrackpore over the next few days.

    “Providing Free Eye Screening to the everyday public vehicle drivers was much needed as they are an integral part of our regular lifestyle, yet they are excluded at times from getting the basic amenities. The team of Disha Eye Hospitals will be undertaking similar initiatives in the coming weeks,” said Bhattacharya.
