7200 delegates set to attend All India Ophthalmological Society at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre

The 82nd conference of the All India Ophthalmological Society will be held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town from Thursday to Sunday.
About 7,200 delegates, 300 of them from overseas, will attend the conference, said ophthalmologist Abhijit Ghosh, the chairperson of the organising committee.
“There will be scientific sessions, and seminars. There will be sessions on sub-specialities like retina, cornea and glaucoma,” said Ghosh at a news conference on Tuesday.
Special sessions for young ophthalmologists and women ophthalmologists will be held.
This is the first time since 2015 that the conference is being held in Bengal.
Subhasish Nag, secretary of the organising committee, said a walk to raise awareness about glaucoma will be held between Eco Park and Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on Friday. “The walk will start at 7.30am,” he said.
A trade fair with around 200 stalls will be held alongside the scientific sessions at the meet being held under the aegis of the Ophthalmological Society of West Bengal.
Ghosh said equipment required for eye examination and surgery, and new technologies will be displayed in the trade fair.
“Using artificial intelligence in treating problems of the eye is gaining popularity. One can carry a piece of equipment to a distant village and a doctor can see the patients from a remote location. The equipment will do a basic screening. The doctor can then ask those who require more investigation to come to the city,” he said.
A workshop that will include special lectures for postgraduate medical students will be held on Wednesday, ahead of the conference that will start on Thursday.
