  • Kolkata: A team of officers from the Techno City police station visited the Elita Garden Vista complex on Thursday, where a security guard was severely beaten up by two residents after he had chased a stray dog with a rod, and collected CCTV footage of the incident.

The team also spoke to witnesses who had seen the entire episode unfold early on Tuesday.

An FIR was registered against a resident, Anirban Biswas, and another woman who was accused of beating up the guard, under IPC sections 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 325 (grievous hurt).

Cops also visited RG Kar Hospital on Wednesday night and had recorded the statement of the injured security guard who was initially released from the hospital after first aid but was readmitted following complaints of chest pain.

“We had also tried to speak to Biswas against whom the allegations of assault have been levelled, but the man’s flat is locked and his phone is switched off. We are trying to trace him at the earliest,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police.

TOI, however, connected with him over a WhatsApp call on Thursday night when he said he was taking legal steps and would be applying for anticipatory bail on Friday. “I am not staying at home, fearing backlash. I will apply for bail on Friday,” he said.

“The man often gets into brawls with other residents. There are many dog lovers in the complex but none behaves the way he does. Loving an animal doesn’t mean one has to be inhuman towards other persons,” said Suren Jaiswal, a resident of the complex.
