• ‘Bank bachao’ platform writes to CM on SBI dept ‘shift’

  • Kolkata: Bank Bachao Desh Bachao Manch, which comprises different stakeholders of the banking industry, wrote to CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday, urging her to intervene to stop the possible shifting of SBI’s Centralised Global Back Office from Kolkata.

    “We wish to draw your kind attention to the fact that SBI is planning to shift a major part of forex operations of Global Market Unit, situated at Jeevan Sudha Building, 42/C, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Kolkata-700 071 to Mumbai.As per our information, SBI plans to shift the Centralised Global Back Office (CGBO), which works 24x7 from time Zone Sydney, Bahrain, Hong Kong, London and New York, ie important central treasuries,” the letter says.

    Urging the CM to step in, BBDBM convener Soumya Datta wrote: “We appeal to your good office to initiate suitable measures to ensure that the operations of the prestigious Global Market Unit, Kolkata of State Bank of India continues to function from Kolkata and the nefarious designs of Centre to deprive the state of West Bengal are thwarted.” tnn
