• Thunderstorms, rain in Kolkata till Thursday

  • The city is set to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds moving at a speed of 30-40kmph till Thursday. The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy at least until Wednesday.

    Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 30.3 degrees Celsius during the daytime on Monday with 93% humidity. The maximum temperature is expected to remain the same or slightly lower in the coming days.

    The weather department issued an orange alert for Kolkata and other districts of South Bengal like North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Purulia, Jhargram, Bankura, Purab and Paschim Midnapore, Purab and Paschim Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia.

    These areas might experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, moving at a speed of 40-50 km/h, the weather department said. Accompanied by thunderstorms, hailstorms, and heavy rain are likely to occur at one or two places in districts.

    The daytime temperature on Tuesday in Baharampur, Bishnupur, Burdwan, Sriniketan, Bankura, Purulia, and Murshidabad might reach 34 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, Darjeeling recorded a minimum temperature at 9.6 degrees Celsius and maximum temperature at 19.8 degrees Celsius. ens
