• West Bengal: ED conducts searches at TMC minister Chandranath Sinha's residence in Birbhum

  • KOLKATA: A team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at the residence of West Bengal minister Chandranath Sinha in Bolpur, Birbhum district.

    The search is part of the investigation into an alleged school recruitment scam.

    The ED team, accompanied by central forces, arrived at Sinha's residence at 9.15 am to begin the search.

    Sinha, who serves as the minister for MSME and Textiles in the Mamata Banerjee government, was not present during the search as he was at his ancestral home in Murarai, 90 km away.

    "The search is in connection with the investigation of the alleged irregularities in the school recruitment scam. The minister is not present at his residence, we are talking to his family," an officer said.

    Sinha had been previously summoned by the CBI in cases of cattle and coal smuggling.

    Meanwhile, the ED was also conducting raids at the homes of some businessmen in Kolkata, including Lake Town, Chetla, and Ballygunge.

    "They were suspected to be helping in transferring funds illegally from India to other coutries. We are talking to them, and looking into some documents," the officer said.
