  • Kolkata/Howrah: Police have recovered over Rs 1 crore in two separate raids in Kolkata and Howrah station on Friday. Nine persons have been arrested so far in this regard.

    The raids were conducted just weeks before the Lok Sabha elections. On Friday, the Election Commission said the total unaccounted cash seizure in the state has crossed Rs 4.2 crore.

    In the first incident, a joint team of ARS of detective department and Hare Street arrested three persons from the Rabindra Sarani area and recovered Rs 58 lakh from them.

    None of the accused could explain why they had stacked the money with them.

    In Howrah, the raid inside Rajdhani Express was carried in the evening, the arrest took place at night. Rs Rs 50 lakh was confiscated.

    Police said two residents of Panskura in East Medinipur and four residents of Lucknow arrived by Rajdhani Express and stepped onto platform 8 of Howrah. They carried heavy bags on their shoulders. RPF detained them on suspiscion and when their bags were searched, they found the money. The accused were arrested.
