  • The CPI(M)-led Left Front on Saturday announced four more candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. According to the names, CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim will fight from the Murshidabad seat.

In these four seats, two are new candidates while two others have been in the poll fray previously. Apart from Salim, the Left Front bloc has fielded Alokesh Das from Ranaghat, Shyamali Pradhan from Bolpur and Sukriti Ghoshal from the Bardhaman-Durgapur seat.

Earlier, the Left Front had announced their candidates in 17 seats while Congress had separately named eight of their candidates from West Bengal. Congress will fight four more seats in the state.

On Saturday, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose said, “We are continuing our talks within the Left Front. We will let you know after we finalise the candidates.”

An ally of the CPI(M), Indian Secular Front (ISF), has announced their candidate names from eight seats, including Murshidabad, where the CPI(M) has fielded Md Salim. “We have no seat-sharing adjustment with the ISF. We are talking and if any deal is sealed, we shall let you know,” said Bose.

Initially, the Left Front was ready to give the ISF six seats and twelve to Congress, leaving 24 for the Left Front constituents. However, the ISF announced candidates from eight seats. Meanwhile, Left Front allies, such as Forward Bloc and the CPI, have cited their unhappiness over the seat distribution. The names of all the candidates is likely soon once the Left Front constituents iron out their differences over the seat sharing arrangement.
