  • Kolkata: For the first time this season, the maximum temperature crossed 35 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, the maximum temperature climbed up half a notch from Friday to touch 35.1° Celsius, while the maximum real feel temperature remained above 40° Celsius for the second consecutive day.

While the maximum temperature is predicted to inch towards 37° Celsius by the middle of next week, the maximum real feel temperature may be as high as 43° Celsius on Sunday, according to private weather forecaster, Accuweather.

The Met office has ruled out the chance of rain respite for at least a week, with maximum temperature likely to remain over 35° Celsius.

“If the temperature goes up another two to three notches, then the prevailing humidity may be replaced by a dry heat. For the next two to three days, we can expect the hot and humid weather to continue. We are keeping an eye on the temperature and other heating factors before issuing an advisory on the rising heat,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director G K Das.

The city is likely to continue seeing periods of clouding in the latter half of the day, due to moisture incursions from the Bay of Bengal. Bengal’s western districts, however, may experience mild rainfall next week. Clouding from neighbouring districts presents a marginal chance of rain in Kolkata but a significant shower to reverse the heat is unlikely over the course of next week. Sunday may see partly cloudy skies while the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 35° and 27° Celsius.
