The IMD stated, “There will be a gradual rise in maximum temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next 48 hours and no larger changes thereafter for the subsequent three days in Gangetic Bengal.”
In the next two days, light rain with thunder is likely to occur in Kolkata and one or two places in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Purulia, Jhargram, West Midnapore, Bankura, West Burdwan, East Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia districts.
On Saturday, Panagarh again registered the highest temperature in the state, at 39.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Midnapore, Bhigankura, Bishnupur, and Burdwan at 37 degrees Celsius; Asansol, Purulia, and Murshidabad at 36 degrees Celsius; Shantiniketan and Krishnanagar at 37 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the IMD issued an orange alert for the Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong districts on Sunday in anticipation of hailstorms or thunderstorms. These are likely to occur at one or two places, with lightning and gusty winds (reaching 30-40 kmph). The alert is expected to last until Monday, and light rain will continue for another week in these regions.
Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda districts are likely to experience moderate rain with thunder till Sunday, as per the IMD.
Darjeeling maintained a steady temperature of 11 degrees Celsius minimum and 18 degrees Celsius maximum from Friday to Saturday.
IMD officials have stated that the maximum temperature will not significantly change over the next five days.
Kalimpong has seen a maximum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 16 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Jalpaiguri, Malda, Siliguri, and Cooch Behar districts are experiencing maximum temperatures hovering around 32-34 degrees Celsius.
