Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation buildings department will engage private agencies that will provide security guards for deployment at illegal construction sites where the civic body has served stop-work notices.
The job of a guard will be to keep an eye on the trespassers who may try to start constructions at the site afresh. In such a case, the guard posted at the site will report the matter to the buildings department officials and seek police assistance.
According to the KMC building rules, the civic body is supposed to engage its own employees as guards at the disputed site (illegal buildings).But dearth of manpower has compelled the civic body to outsource the vigilance work.
“After detecting an illegal building, we will first issue a stop-work notice. Then we will engage guards at the site,” said mayor Firhad Hakim. tnn
