KMC, cops to shift hawkers around Fancy Market transformer

Kolkata: A team of Town Vending Committee members on Thursday visited Karl Marx Sarani near Fancy Market in Kidderpore to check unauthorised hawkers’ stalls occupying a pavement around an electric transformer. The inspection was held following a complaint made to the TVC by a local hawkers’ union a couple of days ago.
Debasish Das, a TVC member and a hawker union leader said the matter had been sorted out.“We have asked them to shift elsewhere as the transformer poses a threat to their life, especially during the monsoon, when the area gets flooded. They face electrocution, given their proximity to the transformer,” Das told TOI.
Sources in the KMC lighting department said the hawkers would be shifted out with cop help.
A TVC team visited Pagaya Patti in Burrabazar, where they found traders and stall owners encroaching on the pavement. “We will ask the owners to remove their wares,” said a member. tnn
