Kolkata: Indian Life Saving Society (ILSS), popularly referred to by its earlier name Anderson Club, had partially removed a section of the roof of a restroom that it had extended till the bank of the lake at Rabindra Sarobar following an order from Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).
KMDA officials said the roof had been extended on the pretext of carrying out repairs.“ILSS sought permission to repair the roof. But they constructed an extension hanging over the water body. Following an inspection, we asked them to remove it, since it was in violation of norms of the Sarobar set by the NGT. The club has complied with our instruction,” said an official.
Club secretary Shantanu Mazumdar said, “Since KMDA asked us to remove the extended portion and we complied with it.”
