KOLKATA: PM Narendra Modi had turned India into one big prison, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee countered on Monday while reacting to his threat to jail more opposition politicians after BJP’s victory in the Lok Sabha polls on June 4.
Modi’s “roaring speeches may provide oxygen to his party workers but, for the country and democracy, they are like carbon-dioxide and nitrogen”, Banerjee said, urging the PM to stop issuing such threats, report Tamaghna Banerjee and Falguni Banerjee.
“Does the language he uses suit a PM? He said: ‘June 4 ke baad, sabko chun-chun ke jail me bharunga (Will put everyo-ne in jail after June 4)’,” Banerjee said. “You have turned Hindustan into a big prison. Democracy has been jailed in your regime,” she added, while addressing a rally in Banku-ra’s Raipur, WB. “BJP wants to send everyone to prison. Only Modi-ji will be sitting outside,” she said, suggesting the PM “convert the new Parliament House into a jail”.
