Let family use Sandeshkhali residence: Shahjahan to ED

Kolkata: Sheikh Shahjahan, currently in ED’s custody in connection with a land grab case, has approached the agency to permit his family to use his Akunjipara residence at Sandeshkhali. The house had been sealed after raids by ED and CBI.
ED, meanwhile, questioned Shahjahan’s wife about his properties for more than 10 hours on Monday. The agency is already looking into SK Sabina, a company registered in his daughter’s name.Investigators believe Shahjahan procured properties in other family members’ names too.
In his plea to ED, Shahjahan said the Akunjipara residence was ancestral property. The land had belonged to his father, Abu Siddik. “The property was procured much before the ration scam came into existence. Therefore, it cannot be construed that the property was purchased from the proceeds of crime,” said his lawyer.
While this had been mentioned in the PMLA court earlier, the judge asked that the issue be taken up with ED.
Shahjahan’s family members have not been able to enter the premises of the Akunjipara home since its attachment by ED.
