  • Slamming the detention and manhandling of TMC MPs by Delhi Police outside the Election Commission office, party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday evening met Governor CV Ananda Bose at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata and urged him to intervene. Calling the Delhi Police action a “black spot” on democracy, the TMC leader asked why the Chief Election Commissioner was “silent”.

“What happened in Delhi today, outside the office of the EC, was the murder of democracy in broad daylight. Despite furnishing all the evidence against the NIA SP, Dhan Ram Singh, and his meeting with tainted BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari, why would the EC not act against the officer? My complaint and allegation are against the CEC (Rajiv Kumar). He doesn’t want free and fair polls. They want a field empty of Opposition,”said Abhishek, who led an 11-member delegation to the Raj Bhavan.” “The way our leaders have been assaulted, dragged, manhandled outside the EC office today is a black spot on our democracy and murder of democracy.” The TMC MP said that the Governor said he would write to the EC.
