  • Kolkata: A 5-year-old boy who followed his mother out of their home without her knowledge on Tuesday went missing before being rescued by a group of Duttabad residents around 4km away. Cops then traced his parents and handed the child over on Wednesday.

His mother Puja Das works as a domestic help and had left Rajabagan slum home around 3.30 pm. Her son Raju possibly followed her out and wandered off.“Locals spotted him loitering and crying and brought him to my office. He could only say his name and his father’s name. So, we handed him to Bidhannagar south PS,” said Nirmal Dutta, a TMC leader and former councillor of Bidhannagar’s ward 38. Cops sent out the boy’s photographs to all police stations.

The child’s family also launched a search. On their way to the cops on Wednesday, someone came across Dutta’s post about the boy on WhatsApp and the family was directed to Bidhannagar south PS where he was handed over.
