  • TMC  MP Banerjee Wednesday slammed the Election Commission for not allowing the West Bengal government to rebuild houses in Jalpaiguri district that were destroyed in a storm recently.

The TMC leader claimed that Governor CV Ananda Bose reached out to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar regarding the issues raised by his party, including the permission to rebuild houses in Jalpaiguri, but the CEC has been avoiding Bose’s calls and not talking to him.

Banerjee on Wednesday led a delegation of party leaders to the Raj Bhavan. While speaking to the mediapersons he alleged that the EC is not supportive towards the people of Bengal. “The Election Commission has denied permission to rebuild houses damaged in the storm in Jalpaiguri as the model code of conduct (MCC) was in place. But in Assam, the EC has allowed the BJP-led government to work for the affected people. This is nothing but a partisan attitude,” said Banerjee.
