  • NEW DELHI: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the BJP on Friday for claiming that West Bengal has turned into a sanctuary for terrorists. She pointed out that the state police's swift action led to the arrest of the suspects in the Bengaluru blast case.

The BJP's allegation came after two suspects in the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case in Bengaluru were apprehended in West Bengal on Friday, sparking a political battle in the state. The opposition party asserted that the TMC government had transformed the state into a haven for terrorists.

At a rally in Cooch Behar, Banerjee questioned, "Heard one BJP leader saying that Bengal is not safe. The accused were arrested within two hours following a prompt response by police. What about the states where you are in power?" She further asked, "What about Uttar Pradesh Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat and Bihar?"

Banerjee accused the BJP of disseminating false information about the state. She also alleged that the saffron party was abusing central agencies and not providing a "level-playing field for all political parties" during elections.
