• Civil society members voice Ram Navami concerns to EC

  • Kolkata: A group of civil society members visited the CEO’s office on Saturday to express concern over the upcoming Ram Navami processions in and around Howrah district, where there had been communal violence in the past.

    The members urged the chief electoral officer not to allow the processions to deviate from the demarcated routes and said if there was any deviation, it should be promptly thwarted to prevent any untoward incident.They demanded adequate security measures on Ram Navami.

    They also urged the CEO to act against those who were responsible for spreading hate speech and fake information on social media. Among the signatories to the memorandum were actor Manoj Mitra, film director Gautam Ghosh, singer Pratul Mukherjee, author Sirshendu Mukherjee, former MP Kabir Suman and poet Joy Goswami. tnn
