Kolkata: A middle-aged person was arrested by the police on Saturday on charges of fleeing with a vehicle loaded with fishing nets worth lakhs of rupees from the Pageyapatti area under Burrabazar police station.
The accused was caught by the police from the Shibpur area. Cops have also recovered four quintals or 400 kg of fishing nets from the accused.
Police said a businessman had come from Murshidabad a few days ago to sell fishing nets.
After reaching Burrabazar with the nets in a vehicle on Saturday, he made the vehicle driver stand by the roadside and went to talk to the shopkeepers. When he returned after a while, he found the vehicle to be missing. After a futile search, the businessman lodged a complaint at Burrabazar police station. The police have started a probe and arrested the accused driver after a few hours and also recovered the goods.
