Kolkata: A bus collided with a traffic signal and CCTV cameras at the SN Banerjee Road-Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road crossing, snapping overhead tram power lines and igniting sparks on Wednesday evening. Panic among those in the area soon turned into rage and the public vandalised the bus. Cops detained driver Md Salauddin.
The private long-distance buswas overloaded with goods, including wooden ladders that came in contact with the tram traction line, causing it to snap.
With a petrol pump at the crossing, there was panic, and some bikers fell trying to avoid the wire. A few pedestrians were also hurt in the commotion.
Cops shut traffic till the situation normalised and tram services were disrupted.
