• MSC’s Chernyshov named best coach of I-League ’23-24

  • Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting Club’s Andrey Chernyshov has been named the best coach of the just-concluded I-League 2023-2024 while Padam Chettri and Mirjalol Kasimov have been picked by the AIFF as the season’s best goalkeeper and midfielder respectively.

    The Russian Chernyshov — having returned to take charge of the black-and-white brigade in August last year — guided the side to its maiden I-League title, thus helping the team gain promotion to Indian Super League.

    Goalkeeper Padam and Uzbek midfielder Kasimov also contributed handsomely to the team’s campaign as they topped the standings with 52 points from 24 matches, 4 points ahead of Sreenidi Deccan FC.

    Gokulam Kerala’s Spanish striker Alejandro Sanchez Lopez has been adjudged as the league’s best player as well as top scorer (19 goals).

    All prizes contained a cash award of Rs 1 lakh each.

    Best player: Alejandro Sanchez Lopez (Gokulam Kerala); Best goalkeeper: Padam Chettri (Md Sporting); Best defender: Muhammad Hammad (Real Kashmir); Best midfielder: Mirjalol Kasimov (Md Sporting); Highest scorer: Alejandro Sanchez Lopez (Kerala FC); Best emerging player: Gyamar Nikum (Inter Kashi); Best coach: Andrey Chernyshov (Md Sporting).
