  • Kolkata: Several Kolkatans who are using app cabs daily have complained that drivers have been refusing to switch on the AC despite the intense heat. However, the complainants said fares were still being calculated for an AC ride.

Kolkata Traffic Police received 23 complaints about app-cab drivers demanding extra to switch on the AC. The complaints, including that of Sampurna Majumdar, who travelled from JU to Shakuntala Park, and Anirban Sengupta from Patuli, have mainly come in the evening. At least four complaints, due to their serious nature, reached the special raid section of traffic police at Lalbazar, which sent them to app-cab aggregators, asking them to reply with the action taken.

Indranil Banerjee, general secretary, West Bengal Online Cab Operators Guild, said they knew of the complaints and were speaking to drivers. “We don’t support switching off ACs. But both sides must solve the issue together,” he said.
