  • Kolkata: A 35-year-old Indian Army sepoy — posted at Fort William and a resident of Haripal in Hooghly — lost his life after the bike he was riding skidded on the AJC Bose Road-Maa flyover link near the seven-point crossing.

The accident was reported around 5pm on Friday. The victim — identified as Bablu Baskey — was rushed to the Command Hospital in Alipore with multiple injuries where he was declared dead after a few hours.

Police are investigating why the victim had skidded. The spot has been witnessing scores of cases where skidding is leading to accidents. This was the second fatal accident at this spot in the past six months.

Police said the biker did not seem to be speeding but lost control at the turn. “Prima facie evidence suggests no other vehicle hit the motorcycle. The victim suffered serious upper body injuries. However, we are trying to get CCTV footage that will establish the cause of accident,” said a senior investigating officer.
