  • Kolkata: A 19-year-old second-year BCom student of a top Kolkata college — who was also preparing to be a chartered accountant — was found dead at the parking lot of her tower located in the Kasba area in the wee hours of Sunday.

Cops said the victim had, in all probability, fallen from the window of the 25th-floor flat. The tower complex, on Naskarhat Road off Bypass, has 38 floors. The student hadn’t done well in her CA foundation test and was upset over preparations.

Security guards heard a loud sound around 3.45 am and rushed to the spot where they found the girl lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to CNMC Hospital where she was declared dead.

“Prima facie it looks like she died by suicide. But all angles are being probed. The family is yet to lodge any complaint,’ said DC (Jadavpur) Bidisha Kalita.

According to police sources, the victim resided at this tower complex along with her mother and brother. Her father, a businessman, is presently residing in China in connection with his business.

“We were told she had performed well in academics having studied at a reputable school and then at a top college. But of late, she was not interacting much and it seemed that her CA performance had affected her. We are speaking to her family, friends and teachers to ascertain the exact cause of death,” said an officer. Inquest proceedings have been initiated.
