• Ram Navami clashes: CID to individually probe 13 FIRs

  • Kolkata: The state CID will conduct individual investigations into all 13 FIRs filed in the Saktipur and Beldanga areas of Murshidabad in connection with the violence that occurred during Ram Navami celebrations. Nineteen people, including the OC of Saktipur police station, were injured in the clashes.

    On Sunday afternoon, a CID team from Behrampore reached Saktipur, where officers spoke to local cops and studied initial evidence.The on-ground investigation will be managed by CID’s Murshidabad deputy director unit while the primary investigations will be coordinated directly from the agency’s headquarters at Bhawani Bhawan in Kolkata.

    CM Mamata Banerjee had been vocal about the clashes and had even accused BJP of orchestrating them, days after she expressed apprehensions of unrest during Ram Navami ahead of the elections. Clashes were reported in areas under the jurisdictions of Saktipur and Beldanga police stations.

    On the day of Chaitra Sankranti, a disturbance occurred during Charak Puja in Mirzapur, Beldanga.

    Additionally, unrest was reported in Saktipur on the evening of Ram Navami, with alleged bombings taking place in the vicinity of the procession. Till now, police have arrested seven people in connection with these incidents.
