  • Kolkata: Cabbies operating CNG-run cars blocked a fuel station in Beliaghata on Monday morning complaining over unavailability of the green fuel on most days.

Over 30 app cabbies, along with drivers of other commercial vehicles, blocked the road in front of the fuel station, initially stopping motorists from entering there and then even tried to block a portion of the main thoroughfare demanding an end to the crisis.

Kolkata and Bidhannagar cops reached the spot and the blockade was lifted later in the afternoon.

Incomplete CNG pipelines has been delaying Kolkata’s switchover to clean fuel. In Kolkata, there are 5,000 odd CNG vehicles, with app cabs being a formidable chunk. There are nine CNG stations in the city.

Indranil Banerjee, general secretary, West Bengal Online Cab Operators Guild, said: “Such is the crisis that cabbies often drive to Ankurhati or Kolaghat to fill up the tanks.”
