Kalyan makes Kanchan step down from campaign vehicle

HOOGHLY: Trinamool Serampore Lok Sabha candidate and outgoing MP Kalyan Banerjee on Thursday asked actor and Uttarpara TMC MLA Kanchan Mallick to step down from his campaign vehicle. Later, Banerjee said whenever women villagers saw Mallick, they reacted strongly and he had told the latter not to accompany him.
Banerjee led a campaign in the Konnagar Nabagram Panchayat area, in an open-hooded car.Mallick was accompanying him. However, soon after, Mallick got off the car after Banerjee told him to. Mallick was later seen leaving the area on a party worker's bike. Sources said he had returned to Kolkata.
"I don't know if he is disappointed. I have campaigned with him before. Village women react very strongly when he campaigns with me... Why is he campaigning with me? I already told him not to come to the village. He is an MLA and can campaign on his own, but he is not doing that.., I am here for the people. I cannot cause distress to people for the happiness of one person," Banerjee said.
Mallick, however, said: "Kalyan Banerjee did not ask me to get off the vehicle. He said some women reacted strongly when they saw me. I have not come across such negative reactions."
