  • Kolkata: The Border Security Force (BSF) facilitated a woman living in Bangladesh to have the last glimpse of her deceased Indian father at Zero Line of India-Bangladesh border on Friday.

The BSF troops of 08 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier arranged the poignant moment at the Zero Line near the International Border in Bengal on humanitarian grounds.

On Thursday, Lipi Bibi, wife of the deceased Mahabul Mandal, approached the company commander of border outpost at Puttikhali in Nadia. She informed him of her husband’s demise on the previous night.

As her daughter and in-laws living across the border in Bangladesh, Bibi sought the BSF’s assistance in granting them a chance to see the man for the last time.

The officer acted swiftly and contacted his counterpart from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

In a display of shared humanity, both the border forces collaborated to arrange for the daughter and the relatives to pay their last respects at the Zero Line.

“The atmosphere was sombre during the final farewell,” said AK Arya, DIG of the South Bengal Frontier and Public Relations Officer of BSF.
