Kolkata: A traffic sergeant and a constable were beaten up when they tried to file a case against a person for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The incident took place at Bowbazar on Friday night.
Cops have arrested the accused — Arghya Dasgupta, a doctor, and Suddhashil Bhowmik, a KMC official — in this connection and seized the car they were travelling in.
According to police, Dasgupta was driving the car with Bhowmik next to him when their car hit another vehicle at the crossing of Central Avenue and Ganesh Chandra Avenue around 9 pm. Following this, sergeant Suman Patra and his colleagues from the Headquarters Traffic Guard stopped the doctor’s car.
Upon examination, it was found that the driver, the doctor, was in an inebriated state. When they tried to file a case as per the rules, an altercation broke out between them. It is alleged that the duo then assaulted the policemen.
