Tree branch falls on road, damages Salt Lake park wall

Kolkata: A tree branch inside a Salt Lake AE block (part-II) playground collapsed on Wednesday evening, damaging the park’s boundary wall. Since nobody was present at the spot, a mishap was averted.
Locals said the tree was already damaged. “Most of the time, cars are parked on the roadside beside the park where the tree fell. Fortunately, no vehicle was parked and nobody was standing there when the incident happened around 8 pm on Wednesday.The tree was most likely infested with worms and was in a poor condition,” said a local block committee member. The civic authorities were informed and the fallen branch was removed from the spot on Thursday.
Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to conduct regular surveys to check condition of tall trees in the township. “With the heat spell on, we will ask our workers to check condition of tall trees by conducting visits in late afternoon,” said BMC MMIC Rahima Bibi Mondal.
