  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address election rallies in south Bengal, as part of his two-day visit to the state, beginning Thursday. He is scheduled to reside at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata on Thursday night.

    PM Modi, on Friday morning, will address election rallies in support of BJP candidates in Krishnanagar, Purba Bardhaman and Bolpur Lok Sabha constituencies, after taking a helicopter ride from RCTC Ground in the city.

    According to a senior police officer of the Kolkata Police, “Tight security arrangements have been made in the city in view of the Prime Minister’s visit. He will spend the night at Raj Bhavan. On Friday, he will fly to the venues of his public meetings.” Kolkata traffic police has also regulated vehicular movement on certain stretches in the city for the PM’s visit.

    Meanwhile, state Governor CV Ananda Bose has also cut short his personal visit to his home state Kerala and returned to the city. According to sources in the BJP, in a bid to increase the party’s tally in south Bengal, the top leadership is giving an additional push to the election campaigning in the area.

    Earlier, PM Modi held election rallies in Arambagh, Krishnanagar and Barasat in south Bengal.

    In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Bhartiya Janata Party had won 11 Lok Sabha seats in south Bengal districts out of total 34 while winning 7 seats out of total 8 in north Bengal districts.
