After weeks of sweltering heat in the city, Kolkata on Thursday saw a dip in the maximum temperature that was recorded at 39.2 degree Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain in South Bengal districts from Sunday and said that the maximum temperature is likely to fall by 2-3 degree Celsius in the next five days in the state.
Light rain with thunder occurred in the southern districts of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Puraba Midnapore and Paschim Midnapore on Thursday.
Meanwhile, six districts including Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, and Birbhum, continue to remain on red alert and are likely to experience severe heatwave conditions till Tuesday, said the Met department.
