  • KOLKATA: Governor C V Ananda Bose on Friday claimed that a "more sinister plot has been hatched in the Raj Bhavan". Governor Bose flew to Kochi on Friday, according to Raj Bhavan sources, for a scheduled programme.

The governor released two statements on Friday. In the first he alleged, "Raj Bhavan received confidential report that political forces have planted one more person in the Raj Bhavan with sinister intent.Matter is being verified by concerned agencies. These are just election ploys, nothing more nothing less".

In a second - more detailed statement - while hitting out at his political detractors (without naming anyone) Governor Bose said, "I am not surprised. I have (been) briefed about what I can expect in Bengal from certain political parties. I have braved many storms; I tell the political party that is plotting against me that this is not storm, this is only a storm in a tea cup. You will not be surprised if you realize that I am the storm. At least now politicians should have realized that I would like to be the captain of a storm. Bring out all weapons and use it against me. I am prepared to fight, not flight. I shall continue my fight for the dignity and respect."

In an audio and a text message shared with media, Governor Bose, addressing the "members of the Raj Bhavan staff" said, "I welcome all the generous allegations and frequent innuendos passed by the political force. I understand my friends that there is more in the offing. But one thing is clear, none of the absurd dramas is going to deter me from my determined efforts to expose corruption and curb violence. Character assassination (is) the last resort over failing malevolence."

The governor said, "Now I have an information that a more sinister plot has been hatched in the Raj Bhavan. We know the characters chosen for this, beware. I will not be surprised if I am blamed for Bengal famine 1943 or the infamous great Calcutta killings of Bengal in 1946 - this is the nature of political forces working in the state of Bengal." After the matter was reported, Raj Bhavan had issued successive statements since Thursday.

On Thursday, he had claimed these were "engineered narratives," and "If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them." In another statement, he had also banned the entry of minister Chandrima Bhattacharya and police to Raj Bhavan and indicated that he had also spoken to the Attorney General of India on this issue.
