• Mamata Banerjee on sexual harassment allegations against Ananda Bose: Woman’s tears broke my heart

  • A day after a contractual employee at the Raj Bhavan accused West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose of sexually harassing her, CM Mamata Banerjee Friday hit out at him and questioned the silence of PM Narendra Modi, who addressed three rallies in the state, over the incident.

At Purba Bardhaman, she said, “[Modi] has given his sandesh (message) on Sandeshkhali but I didn’t let any untoward incident happen… but what is he doing?”

“Yesterday, a young woman who worked at Raj Bhavan came out and spoke against the Governor’s harassment… I had heard of such incidents…The woman’s tears broke my heart. I have seen her video testimony. Before talking about Sandeshkhali, they should look at themselves first. Why did the Governor do this to someone, who worked at his home? He molested her twice,” the CM said.

“The woman cried and walked out saying she was too scared to work at Raj Bhavan. She said she was subjected to harassment. How dare these people talk about the dignity of our mothers and sisters?” she said.

“You (PM) spent an entire night at Raj Bhavan even after the allegations came to light. Why are you silent?” she said.
