Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation on Saturday reshuffled the civic body’s buildings department officials across 16 boroughs. The exercise, according to a KMC official, was aimed at posting efficient officials in areas where some KMC buildings department officials have been struggling to stop illegal constructions.
The reshuffle was also conducted in the wake of complaints that had been pouring into the civic headquarters about illegal constructions from several areas, known as red zones.
“The decision for a reshuffle in the KMC buildings department was taken after a survey of illegal construction of buildings in some particular neighbourhoods following the Garden Reach building collapse. We had to keep efficient and transparent officials posted in areas where they can make sincere endeavours to prevent land sharks from constructing illegal buildings that can crumble causing disasters,” said a KMC official.
