  • BEHRAMPORE: Congress's Behrampore LS candidate complained on Saturday that Trinamool was "hatching a conspiracy" in Murshidabad, particularly Behrampore, to ensure that voters do not reach poll booths on Tuesday, the day of elections.

"We are going to meet election observers. Trinamool organizers are aware that they can't rig elections in presence of central forces in polling booths. They are trying to spread terror with bombs and pistols so that people do not reach polling booths," Chowdhury said.

Calling TMC a "safe sanctuary for criminals," the Congress senior said: "They are trying to spread terror among voters and create a situation at Behrampore on election day so that Adhir Chowdhury is compelled to leave town. They will then take control of polling booths. We won't allow this."

Responding to the Sandeshkhali sting video in which a BJP mandal sabhapati is heard saying that the entire episode was tutored, Chowdhury said: "I don't want to comment about the video. I want to ask why the Bengal CM is not going to Sandeshkhali. Why isn't the administration allowing the opposition to go to Sandeshkhali and talk to women."

Chowdhury asked TMC to place its view before Calcutta High Court that had ordered a CBI investigation into the incident.

Coming down heavily on BJP over its bid to polarize voters on communal lines, Chowdhury said: "How long will Modi continue with Gai, Ganga and Gita politics? PM Modi and Amit Shah have taken the country down the slide. What have they done to control prices when kitchens are on fire?"
