  • Kolkata: Less than a week since Bidhannagar Police issued an order citing strict punishment for laser light projection around the airport, yet another complaint of laser light interference was reported by a pilot while landing at Kolkata airport on Sunday evening.

Airport officials said, a Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight from Delhi was approaching from the direction of Barasat when the pilot complained of being blinded by a laser light before landing. The aircraft was around 5 nautical miles away when a green laser light from the direction of Madhyamgram allegedly struck the cockpit.

The incident occurred five days after the Bidhannagar Police commissioner issued an order identifying zones from where most complaints were received. Laser lights pose a threat to flight safety and cops have warned that more stringent laws will be imposed which might also lead to imprisonment of up to six months for those who violate the ban.

Reacting to Sunday’s incident, police said that they were alerted about the incident by the airport manager and had referred the complaint to Barasat police station.
