• State disburses Rs 5.9 crore for Rupashree scheme for families in Bidhannagar

  • KOLKATA: Since the financial year of 2018-19 till date, nearly Rs 5.9 crore have been disbursed by the state govt under the state's Rupashree scheme against a total of 2,356 applications approved within Bidhannagar municipal corporation (BMC) area.

    As per the latest up to date figures available with BMC, already 53 applications have been passed and Rs 13.2 lakh disbursed in the present financial year of 2024-25 till Friday.

    Rupashree scheme is a state govt initiative which provides a one-time grant of Rs 25,000 to families of economically weaker section at the time of their adult daughter's marriage. The scheme was launched by the state women & child development and social welfare on April 1, 2018.

    "Most number of applications have come from localities of Rajarhat Gopalpur area like Baguiati, Kestopur, Narayanpur, Kaikhali and the border areas of Salt Lake," said a BMC official.

    Officials said that the most number of applications (489) were approved and the highest amount of Rs 1.2 crore grant was disbursed during the 2022-23 financial year.
