  • Kolkata: Several city colleges have opened their admission portals following the declaration of the ISC and higher secondary results. Other state-aided colleges are awaiting a final nod from the state government.

St Xavier’s College, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Rahara, Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (Autonomous) Narendrapur, Shri Shikshayatan College, Scottish Church College, and Bhawanipur Education Society have opened their admission portals immediately after the ISC and higher secondary results were announced.Although Loreto College has not yet opened its admission portal, it has uploaded all the required admission-related information on the college website.

This year, the state higher education department has been preparing for a centralized portal to conduct undergraduate admissions centrally, but minority colleges are exempted from this system. Sources said that a demo software was shared with some colleges a few weeks ago to check how this system was running, but state-aided colleges have yet to receive any instructions to initiate the process.

When a majority of college authorities are waiting for a final nod, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Rahara, and Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (Autonomous) Narendrapur have issued notices for admission tests as well in June. St Xavier’s College has opened its admission portal this week, and it will remain live for at least one week after the CBSE class XII results are announced. Swami Ekachittananda, principal of Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (Autonomous) Narendrapur, said, “Our portal will be live until June 9. Our admission tests are between June 13 and 15, and this time we will have two away centres—one in north Bengal and another in Purulia, considering requests from students in past years.”

Father Dominic Savio, principal of St. Xavier’s College, said, “ISC and HS students can apply now. CBSE students need not worry as the portal will be kept live for at least a week after the CBSE results are out.” Madhumanjari Mandal, principal of Scottish Church College, said, “Our admission portal is open, and students can apply now, but the last date for submission has not been mentioned.”

One college principal said, “Every day we are getting several calls from students inquiring about the start of the admission procedure. Some of them have come to college, but we don’t have any information to share.” Another admission convener said, “The higher education department had conducted a test run with the software, and it was working perfectly, but we have not been told when the software will start functioning. However, this time the department officials are quite confident about starting the new system.”
