• Ahead of 4th phase Lok Sabha elections, BSF Eastern Command ADG oversees preparedness along Indo-Bangla borders in 2 Bengal districts

  • Ahead of the fourth phase of polling in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, slated to be held on May 13, the ADG, Eastern Command, BSF, assessed the operational readiness along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Murshidabad and Nadia districts on Friday and Saturday.

    According to the statement issued by the Border Security Force, “In a strategic move to ensure border security and operational preparedness, Ravi Gandhi, Additional Director General, Eastern Command, Kolkata extensively visited the India-Bangladesh border in Nadia and Murshidabad districts in West Bengal under the jurisdiction of BSF, South Bengal Frontier and gave guidelines in view of upcoming 4th Phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 13. He instructed all the officers to keep a close watch on the crimes taking place on the border at their respective levels and to completely seal the India-Bangladesh border.”

    In the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, polling will take place in the Baharampur seat of Murshidabad district, Ranaghat and Krishnanagar seats of Nadia district.

    The statement said, “During the visit, Gandhi along with Ayush Mani Tiwari, IPS, IG, South Bengal Frontier, visited the Sector Headquarters at Behrampur and inspected the border areas near the Padma River along the Border Road. A thorough assessment of soil erosion in the surrounding area was made and instructions were issued accordingly.”

    It further states, “Gandhi visited the 149th Battalion border outposts Kanapara and Nirmalchar and was briefed by the Battalion Commandant about the local conditions and prevalent cross-border crimes. Gandhi interacted with the Company Commanders and familiarize himself with the challenges faced in curbing cross-border crimes.”

    Gandhi proceeded to visit Harudanga, a highly sensitive border outpost of the 73rd Battalion, where the Battalion Commander briefed him about the volatile areas and the strong measures taken to prevent illegal infiltration and activities.

    Continuing his visit, Gandhi visited the border outposts of the 146 and 86 Battalions, Meghna and Shikaripur, and carefully assessed the operational readiness and management strategies there.

    The statement said, “Ravi Gandhi stressed the unwavering commitment of the BSF, South Bengal Frontier to ensure the security of the borders and the security of the nation. He highlighted the importance of proactive measures in combating cross-border crimes and maintaining territorial integrity.”
