Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation drainage department has asked the officials manning drainage pumping stations to keep a constant vigil on the functioning of these stations and keep them in perfect condition before the rainy season sets in.
According to the member, mayor-in-council overseeing the KMC sewerage and drainage department, Tarak Singh, the civic body would leave no stone unturned to ensure that the drainage pumping stations are taken care of to assure the citizens that there will be no flooding of areas for longer hours in the event of heavy showers.
“We have chalked out a strategy for smooth functioning of the drainage pumping stations and lock gates ahead of the monsoon. If the strategy works, we can assure that storm water will recede fast from the waterlogged neighbourhoods,” said Singh. TNN
