  • KOLKATA: Addressing a public meeting in Bongaon on Monday, CM Mamata Banerjee said: "(PM Narendra) Modi said even on Sunday that the BJP would implement CAA. Let me state this clearly: all of are citizens. Matua brothers and sisters cannot be forced to give up their rights. Modi will have to cross me first before laying a finger on any of you."

"All our Matua brothers and sisters are citizens, they have all necessary documents and access to government schemes.Ask the Bongaon BJP candidate (junior Union minister Shantanu Thakur) to apply under CAA first. They themselves have not done so yet because they know they will be declared foreigners. We would not have had any issue if they gave unconditional citizenship. But they want to take away people's rights," she added.
