• At 80.2%, phase 4 voter turnout in Bengal highest in India

  • Kolkata: Bengal during the fourth phase poll recorded 80.2% turnout, the highest in the country in this round of election, followed by Andhra Pradesh (79.2%) and Odisha (75%).

    However, the turnout in Bengal is lower than 2019 polling percentage of 82.7.

    The dip of 2.5% is also the least in first four phases in Bengal. In first phase, the dip was 2.8%; in second phase 3.9% and in third phase, it was 4%.

    During first phase on April 19, poll percentage in Bengal was 81.9, when polls were held in Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri.

    On April 26, when the second phase was held in Darjeeling, Balurghat and Raiganj the turnout was 76.5%. The third phase polling on May 7 in Malda South and North, Murshidabad and Jangipur witnessed polling percentage of 77.5.

    Of the eight Lok Sabha constituencies where polling was held on Monday, Burdwan East recorded the highest turnout of 82.8%. It was followed by Bolpur (82.6%), Birbhum (81.9%), Ranaghat (81.8%), Burdwan-Durgapur (80.7), Krishnanagar (80.6), Behrampore (77.5) and Asansol (73.2).
