  • The maximum temperature is set to rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius during the next five days in West Bengal, with temperatures likely to touch 40 degrees in southern districts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.

    Moreover, all the southern districts are likely to experience dry weather except for North and South 24 Parganas, where light rain with thunder has been forecast for Wednesday.

    On Tuesday, meanwhile, Raiganj recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 39.7 degrees Celsius.

    Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius during the daytime, with the maximum humidity at 89%. The sky remained partly cloudy.

    In southern Bengal, the maximum temperature in Burdwan, Canning , Panaghar , Barrackpore and Jhargram hovered around 36-37 degrees Celsius, while in Berhampur, Bankura, Sriniketan it was around 35 degrees Celsius.

    On northern side, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds remained constant and are likely to continue this week in the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, and North Dinajpur.

    In Darjeelin, the maximum temperature was at 19.4 degrees Celsius, while in Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri it was 35.8 degrees Celsius. In Alipurduar, the maximum temperature touched 34 degrees Celsius and 39.7 degrees Celsius in Raiganj.
