KOLKATA: A local TMC leader in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district was shot at, as confirmed by the police on Friday. Animesh Roy, who is the panchayat pradhan of Lalbazar in Sitalkuchi, was returning home with an aide on Thursday night when the attack took place, according to reports.
Armed men, who have not been identified yet, shot at him. They added that Roy was shot in his right thigh and sustained a gunshot wound.
A police officer said that Roy's aide was also injured in the firing.
An investigation was underway. Efforts were being made to apprehend those responsible for the attack, as stated by him.
"We are also talking to his family... they are not saying much," he added.
Roy is currently receiving medical treatment at a private hospital located in the district. According to the officer, his condition is extremely critical.
