• Adi Ganga report: NGT warns agencies
    Times of India | 18 May 2024
  • Kolkata: The NGT has threatened to initiate proceedings against KMDA and Hidco for failing to comply with its orders related to a petition on construction along the bank of Adi Ganga. The NGT bench, comprising Justice B Amit Sthalekar and expert member Arun Kumar Verma, had asked for a compliance report by Dec 2023 but both the agencies are yet to submit them.

Activist Subhas Datta and an NGO (PUBLIC) had filed separate petitions challenging the construction of concrete pillars along the west bank of Adi Ganga for a water pipeline project, arguing that it would impact the already struggling tidal river.

Although the court had earlier disposed of the case, acknowledging the necessity of the water supply project, it mandated that the agencies ensure minimal disruption and submit a report.
