  • HOWRAH: Just eight minutes after casting her vote from home, a 95-year-old woman passed away after suffering a heart attack.

Gayatri Mukherjee was a resident of Patihal in Jagatballavpur, Howrah under Serampore Lok Sabha constituency. Election Commission has made arrangements for elderly people so that they can cast votes from home instead of going to booths.

Accordingly, Mukherjee's family had requested the administration to allow her to vote from home. A relative said the woman had been suffering from age-related illnesses for a long time. Still, she had a keen interest in political matters and regularly watched news on television.

Due to her illness, she couldn't vote in rural and assembly polls. This time, she expressed her desire to her family. Accepting the Mukherjee family's request, EC facilitated her voting on Friday afternoon. However, shortly after casting her vote, she began to feel unwell and passed away a little later. Minister Arup Roy expressed his condolences.
